Who we are

MENA Impact Women is an independent platform generating research, insights and applied initiatives at the intersection of women’s empowerment, media and communication across MENA and Africa.

Across the region, women navigate complex information environments shaped by cultural, social and economic realities. Yet, their experiences and perspectives remain largely underrepresented in global narratives — and insufficiently reflected in data.

MENA Impact Women was created to bridge this gap.

Through field-based research and direct engagement with communities, the platform produces insights grounded in real contexts. Our work focuses on understanding how women access information, interact with media, build trust, and contribute to shaping public discourse.

Over time, these insights allow us to identify patterns, challenges and opportunities that are essential to understanding how communication can enable meaningful and sustainable change.

Our approach is rooted in context.

We do not apply one-size-fits-all frameworks. Instead, we prioritize local knowledge, cultural sensitivity and lived experiences — recognizing that meaningful change can only emerge from within the societies where it takes place.

But our work does not stop at research

MENA Impact Women translates insights into action — through collaborations, advisory support and practical learning initiatives designed to respond to real needs on the ground.

These activities are strengthened through collaborations with Media Liberata, an independent digital publishing initiative dedicated to producing critical knowledge and publications, and MENA Academy for Women Empowerment in and through the Media, a learning platform delivering applied training and capacity-building programs.

Together, these initiatives contribute to building an integrated ecosystem that connects research, knowledge production and practical application.

The knowledge we generate is designed to inform and strengthen the work of organizations, researchers and practitioners across the region, supporting more effective, inclusive and context-aware approaches to communication and development.

At its core, MENA Impact Women is about making visible what is often unseen, connecting knowledge to action, and contributing to a more informed and grounded understanding of how women shape change across MENA and Africa.
